statement

I have a strong curiosity for the unfamiliar and venture to organise my observations across as varying sources as the natural world and internet culture. Incorporating a diagrammatic approach, I portray the subjects I have a particular fascination for, aiming to fully realise them as a rational image.

Informed by nature and history, I find myself with an endless array of subject matter to depict growing with each discovery. Attracted by a fascination for the unusual, I find a thrill in reconfiguring the natural world’s curiosities through my human lens.

In my recent works, I incorporated a process of scrolling through a mental rolodex of subjects each awaiting the day they will be fully realised. Utilising the human mind’s tendency to see rational images within the irrational, I can develop a composition which has been self informed. Over time I am able to render an image out of obscurity. Benefitting from a fast-drying medium, I bridge the gap between oil paint and drawing, allowing me to make textured and layered paintings with an immediacy akin to drawing and the drawing process.

Ultimately, my work is about curious creative thought, the conscious mind, and how it can rationalise the objective world. In these times of change and discovery, my works examine ways to view our reality, how we understand our minds and reflect our interests; I believe this has an enormous relevance in art today.
